About the course:

The course has been developed to support you in gaining the knowledge and skills you will require to enter the marine industry with a strong emphasis on practical ability.

 

You will have the opportunity to work in metal, wood and composites which will provide you with a broad range of practical skills (which are transferable across a number of industries), enhancing your options for the future.

 

You will read and interpret drawings and from the information provided manufacture a number of work pieces using hand/ hand held power tools, in ferrous/non-ferrous metals, hardwood, softwood, plywood and manufactured boards as well as composite materials.


Course Content:

Working Safely in an Engineering Environment.

Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering.

Using and Communicating Technical Information.

Making Components using Hand Tools and Fitting Techniques

Making Components from Wood Based Materials


Entry Requirements/Qualifications:

No formal requirements are required for level 1 PEO, though students must attend an interview and demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and self development.

 

For mature students the entry criteria will be discussed on an individual basis.


Equipment Requirements:

Safety footwear, Overalls, Pen/Pencil/eraser, and Drawing Equipment as specified.


Assessment:

There are no formal examinations in this qualification. Instead assessments are undertaken on the work that you complete throughout the year.


Progression:

PEO level 2 in either Boat Building or Marine engineering which may be combined with a City and Guilds 2451 Boat Building, Maintenance and Support level 2.
