About the CourseDedicated 2 day workshop for those interested in designing and crafting glass cabochons. This 2 day course is an introduction to the basics of creating individual and unique glass jewellery by exploring and investigating fusing & slumping techniques. Course ContentWorking with Bullseye glass, Dichoric glass, wire and frits students will learn how to create patterns and textures, focusing on colour and shape. The course also covers glass cutting methods and introductions to kiln firing all through demonstrations set in a creative environment. Pieces will be fired in the kilns overnight so please organise the collection of finished items. Entry RequirementsThere are no entry requirements only enthusiasm and commitment. Learning StyleThis course is a practical hands on experience working in a well equipped studio. Specialist tutors will provide demonstrations and support through the 2 days. Equipment RequirementsAll specialist equipment will be provided. Students will need to bring along pencils, coloured pencils and a sketchbook or paper for planning designs and note taking. Course ContentTable Runners – Table runners can be used to jazz up a boring table cloth or sheet cover and add pizzazz to your table. With quick, simple and easy traditional techniques we will show you how to design and make an eye catching table runner for your dining table. Bring along length of fabric of your choice for your table runner, any specific threads such as silks or glitter for the designs on the runner. ProgressionYou can either attend other sessions that are available with the Traditional Craft Course or from the new academic year you will be able to enrol onto other courses that will offer further techniques or a focus on specialist areas. Whether you are continuing your studies here, returning to education to further your career, or an employer looking to upskill your staff, an HNC/HND offers you a flexible approach.
This is a course that would particularly benefit those with a desire to work in the Creative Arts industry or are currently working within the profession. The course structure is designed to develop the skills and confidence necessary for either vocational or educational progression. You will work within a well structured area of delivery and group development, but will also be encouraged to develop individual practice. You will, of course, be fully supported throughout your time with us, but will also be expected to work and study autonomously in order to gain personal inspiration for your projects.
The aims of the course are to encourage and nurture creative and technical skills in those with a desire to learn skills and knowledge related to Art and Design with a view to progression onto higher education or employment within the field. Prior knowledge will be assessed and existing strengths built on as you develop new skills as the course progresses. Should you wish to progress to further study within HE, your tutors will assist you to produce a portfolio of work for this purpose. The course provides a solid grounding in the disciplines required for effective creative practice including opportunities to work with more traditional design methods, drawing, painting, textiles, fashion, photography, printing, graphics and sculpture/3D methods. You will later be given the opportunity to demonstrate your abilities in a range of techniques, skills and areas of work in a chosen ‘preference’ of Art and Design. The course will culminate in an exhibition which will give you the opportunity to showcase your work in a professional setting to the public, local employers and HE institutions.
Financially an HNC/HND is a far more cost effective than a degree. Given the high level of attainment set for the qualification, it is also considered that a HNC/HND in Art and Design will enable learners to go straight into employment. Course Content1 year course studying, 9 Units over the year; of which 4 are mandatory. Professional practice is included, which will support you in seeking employment within the creative industries Entry RequirementsA level 3 qualification in art, design, photography, media or other relevant subject area. Ideally a Foundation Diploma or a Extended Diploma. Good creative skills evidenced through a current portfolio of work which must be presented at interview. NOTE This course is now also offered as a part time option on Saturday morning and Tuesday evening. Please advise at interview if you would prefer this pathway. Part Time HNC. Due to the ongoing growth and success of the full time HNC program we are now offering the course in a part time format for those learners who wish to remain in full time employment. In keeping with the structure of the full time HNC photography course delivery will be designed to develop confidence and technical skills and to help realise individual creative potential.
Although the part time course will allow for a different pace, practice will centre around assignments designed to challenge and encourage students to realise their potential. On a part time basis contact (lectures) will be timetabled into a three hour twilight class 5.00pm until 8.00pm and Saturday morning 10-00am to1.00pm.
Facilities will be available for independent work throughout designated covered time which will include evenings and weekdays. Course ContentLearners studying the Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC will be able to develop a portfolio of work which can contribute towards a specialist Photography degree and assist with entry to employment specializing in photography or related areas of industry. You will extend your ability to present, evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data in order to develop lines of argument and make sound judgements in accordance with basic theories and concepts. You will evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems and communicate the results accurately and reliably with structured and coherent arguments.
Transferable skills necessary for employment are an integral part of this programme. Successful candidates should have the technical knowledge and wider skills to adopt a technical team leader role within their chosen industry. Additional InformationThe present HNC group have developed a small photographic business (Lighthouse Photography) incorporating commercial portraiture and product photography using studio areas and equipment allocated specifically to them. They have completed a number of professional assignments all in keeping with their own subject preference and are working to ensure the business becomes an established area of professional study for future HNC groups.
