Not only did she make friends she gained confidence and has been inspired to return to college as a Part time mature student. Andrea will be studying her NVQ Level 2 in Women's Hairdressing. Entry RequirementsNVQ Level 1,2 qualification in Hairdressing or a minimum of 3 years experience. It should be noted that a good standard of physical health is required as hairdressing is often physically demanding, and this type of work may affect certain skin conditions. Learning StyleThe necessary skills for this qualification will be learnt through a variety of situations these will include working in our commercial salon Kudos. Equipment RequirementsYou will be required to provide a hairdressing kit for the practical assessments. You will be required to wear black t-shirt/polo shirt/blouse, black trousers and black closed in toed shoes. The information on where to buy your training heads and kit will be given at interview.
You will be required to find models for your practical assessments, who will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables. ProgressionAfter completing this course you will have the opportunity to develop further. Courses available are NVQ Level 2 leading to L3 and University. Enrolment InstructionsAn interview with a practical taster will be essential before enrolment onto this course and discussion with a member of the hair team about the certificate in working in the professional Hairdressing Industry.

About the CourseThis nine week course is aimed at anyone that wants to refresh or update their knowledge and skills in colouring. Content of the refresher course may vary, depending on the level of the applicants' previous experience and confidence. An initial assessment will be carried out to determine your individual training requirements. This course is delivered over 9 weeks on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Course ContentA firm understanding of the key basics of colour is essential. Foundation colour is the perfect building block to becoming a skilled and competent colourist.
This inspiring introduction to the world of colour looks at identifying your client’s colour potential, and selecting the right shade to give them the perfect colour result. The course will cover the following elements:
This knowledge teamed with an insight into the Matrix colour range will add skills and earning potential. Entry RequirementsNVQ Level 1,2 qualification in Hairdressing or a minimum of 3 years experience in colouring techniques i.e. foiling, weaving colour application. For the theory side of this course, a good standard of English is required, and students with English as a second language are required to have ESOL at entry level 1.
It should be noted that a good standard of physical health is required as hairdressing is often physically demanding, and this type of work may affect certain skin conditions. Learning StyleThis is a practical course. Equipment RequirementsYou will be required to provide a hairdressing kit for the practical assessments. You will be required to wear a uniform of a black t-shirt/polo shirt/blouse, black trousers and black closed in toed shoes. The information on where to buy kit will be given at interview.
You will be required to find models for your practical assessments, who will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables. ProgressionAfter completing this course you will be ready for a job in a hair salon, or have the necessary skills to become your own boss as a self-employed hairstylist.
The level 3 NVQ will provide you with even more skills and further your career in the hairdressing industry. About the CourseThis short course has been designed by City and Guilds for Hairdressers or Barbers wanting to take a bite size course to develop and update their technical skills in advanced colouring techniques to gain a qualification.
It is a practical course, which is underpinned by a theoretical background. Within the course structure there are four areas of assessment. On completion, all assessments will be retained in a portfolio and used as evidence to show an external examiner. Course ContentThe skills you will develop will include knowledge of different types of products which can be used for creative colouring effects and how to combine and adapt colouring techniques to create highly personalised and up to the minute looks. The course will also cover maintaining safe methods of working when colouring and lightening, consultation, resolve basic colouring problems and aftercare advice for the client. Entry RequirementsAn NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or an equivalent qualification or 10 years experience, is required for the practical side of this course. For the theory side of this course, a good standard of English is required. Students with English as a second language are required to have ESOL at entry level 1. This is necessary as you will need to produce an assignment and take a written question paper to complete the course.
It should be noted that a good standard of physical health is required as hairdressing is often physically demanding, and this type of work may affect certain skin conditions. Equipment RequirementsA small kit is required (cost to be confirmed). You will be required to wear suitable salon wear, which consists of black tunic top, black salon trousers and black closed-toe shoes. AssessmentWithin the course structure there are four areas of continuous assessment - practical, oral questioning, assignments and a written test paper. On completion, the assessment will be retained in a portfolio and used for evidence for your qualification. ProgressionUpon successful completion of the course, you may progress to another short course at level 3 or a full qualification. Additional InformationTo achieve a full certificate for this course, candidates must have completed the “level 3 certificate in working in the professional hairdressing industry”.
At interview please discuss with the hair tutor as you may have enough evidence because of previous qualification that you can be accredited for this certificate
As part of this course you will need to show evidence of working in the professional Hairdressing Industry or take an additional course along side this course to achieve your certificate.
As part of the course, you will be required to complete essential homework as well as practicing your vocational skills in your own time.
