About the Course
The Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of people, enabling them to work in their industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the test(s) are based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirements of the qualification.
Course Content
The course covers the following:
- Safe working practices in construction
- Information, quantities and communicating with others
- Building methods and construction technology
- Preparation of surfaces for decorating
- Applying paint system by brush and roller
- Applying standard paper to wall and ceiling
- Producing specialist decorative finishes
- Applying water born paint system using HVLP spray equipment
- Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirements for the course are GCSE grades C/D English and Maths, or relevant equivalent qualifications. (Practical qualifications may also be considered as an alternative entry depending on grade achieved). Course allocation is subject to a good achievement and attendance report from school (if school leaver) and a successful interview in college demonstrating interest and commitment to study.

Stationery (pens & pencils, set squares, ring binder and calculator)
Assessment
Achievement of each unit by internal testing undertaken by the trainer. Each knowledge unit
also has a mandatory series of questions and answers produced by CAA and managed by
the trainer.
Synoptic practical assignment set by CAA and controlled by the trainer. Successful
completion of the assignment will be needed before the qualification can be completed.
Online test covering the core units and the occupational units must be passed to achieve
the qualification. The test will be an independent test of knowledge and understanding.
Progression
On successful completion of the course, students could seek employment in Painting and Decorating companies in both the private and public sectors, Alternative from this programme candidates may also progress on to NVQ’s or other Level 3 courses to further develop their skills and gain employment in supervisory, management or technical support roles.
