About the CourseWe can start you at any time throughout the year. This is a FREE qualification if you are 22 or under and have not acheived GCSE's D or above in Maths & English. The City Horizons programme is part of the new Foundation Learning programme and is individually designed for young people like you. The course is Full Time but will be a maximum of 16hrs so if you are in receipt of benefits this should not have an impact. (please check with JCP for clarification) Course ContentThis qualification forms part of City Horizons Foundation learning programme. In addition to completing this qualification you will also be required to undertake the following programmes: Work Skills and Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT. This will enable you to progress onto the next level or into employment.
This course is designed to build on your interest and passion for the hair and beauty industry. An introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector which provides you with an ideal, practical introduction to prepare you for further learning or training. It is practical based qualification which includes theory to underpin knowledge and complete all relevant on-line exams. Success StoryKatherine Boyt studied here at City College to gain NVQ Level 2 Barbering and has now successfully gained employment in a renowned barbering salon she has also entered various competitions’ and is working to an exceptionally high standard. Katherine has now also gained her Level 3 in Barbering and is working towards her assessing qualifications which will help steer her towards a career in Education allowing her to pass on her knowledge and experience to others. Entry RequirementsThe theory side of this course requires a good standard of English A - D GCSE and students with English as a second language are required to have ESOL at level 1, this is due to the course containing a high level of written evidence with assignments, written questions and test papers. About the CourseThis course is a short course , which will provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to cut breards and moustaches to creat a variety of looks. The knowledge acquired by the learner will enable them to understand how to identify and create a varity of traditional, current and emerging bread and moustache looks. The skills developed by the learner included the use of scissors, clippers and attachments to create a variety of facial hair shapes by scissor over comb, clipper over comb, freehand cutting techniques. You'll learn which face shapes suite different moustaches and beards and how to deal with problems such as areas of less dense facial hair growth. Cutting techniques focus heavily on scissor over comb and clipper over comb, with and without using cutting guards. The course can be offered as a bespoke course within the salon or workplace.
