About the CourseThis course is suitable for students with no prior knowledge or experience of hairdressing. This is a level 2 certificate designed as a pre entry course to develop your skills and knowledge in preparation for a Diploma at level 2 in ladies hairdressing or level 2 Barbering . This is a highly practical course underpinned with the theoretical knowledge required for you to work safely in the salon and understand the basics of hairdressing skills.These qualifications are based on National Occupational Standards. Your tutors are professionals with qualifications and experience in the hairdressing industry. They will help you to practice your new skills on each other, mannequin heads and with clients in our newly built salons which are open to the general public as well as staff and students. The necessary skills for this qualification will be taught though a variety of situations, in a commercial salon, input sessions and through theory lessons. This is a demanding course, and home study will also be an integral part of your work. Course Content

Kelly Sutton is currently woking within a local salon as a junior stylist. Entry RequirementsWith this course a good standard of English is required to complete the assignment to achieve this qualification. Entry criteria for mature students can be discussed at interview. Ideally all applications require a good standard of education in English, Maths and Science GCSE's A - D or the equivalent.
Learner from the EU or who have been previous ESOL students will require a good standard of spoken English (Level 1 or above) so they can hold a conversation with our wide client base. A BKSB screening will take place at interview to support a good level of English required for the course.
It should be noted that a good standard of physical health is required as hairdressing is often physically demanding, and this type of work may affect certain skin conditions. This course is designed for over 19’s. A short interview is required by every learners before starting this course. Learning StyleThe necessary skills for this qualification will be taught though a variety of situations, in a commercial salon, input sessions and through theory lessons and assignment and researched. This is a demanding course, and home study will also be an integral part of your work. Equipment RequirementsYou will be required to purchase a hairdressing kit for the practical assessments. The full hairdressing kit costs approx. £190 including a text book. You will be required to wear a uniform to all practical session’s, this consists of a black tunic, black trousers and black closed in shoes, the cost for this is approximately £50.00. The information on where to buy the uniform and kit can be obtained at time of interview. Consumables of £ 30.00 will have to be paid at first session of the course AssessmentThe course is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will be able to gain extra experience in the College salon as well as attending lectures and tutorials. Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the programme. To re enforce underpinning knowledge students are encouraged to participate in student led activities within the class, complete work packs and online tests to produce a portfolio of evidence compiled by the student. student will be required to take photos of their clients as evidence. You will be expected to provide models for your practical assessments and work on external clients. ProgressionAfter completion of this course you will be required to complete a skills test and a short written paper to prepare you for the progression routes that are available. NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing (Combined hair types). NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing VRQ Level 2 in Hairdressing Those students wishing to study more advanced colour work, cutting & restyling as well as business management could continue onto a NVQ Level 3 program. Additional InformationAs part of the course, you will be required to complete essential homework as well as practicing your vocational skills in your own time. You will be able to log onto the college virtual learning environment called “CITYBit” to work from anywhere and download handouts to support your assignments and the theoretical elements of the course. About the CourseThis course will give you the opportunities to develop Barbering or update your skills. Course ContentThe course will cover units such as ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety, give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation, advise and consult with clients, cut hair using basic techniques, shampoo and condition hair and scalp, style dress and finish hair using basic techniques, fulfill salon reception duties and provide scalp massage services. Entry RequirementsNVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent is required for the practical side of this course. Theory lessons are taught through a variety of methods from classroom, independent study, online resources through our Visual Learning Environment VLE. Equipment RequirementsWe strive to source the best value kits for all our Hairdressing courses. The kit itself contains everything you will need to embark on a career in hairdressing.There is a charge of £30.00 for consumables to be paid enrollment on the course. Due to health and Safety regulations all students are required to purchase and wear in all practical sessions a full uniform which consists of the following: Tunic, Trousers and closed toed shoes. Please note that these are purchased through the college suppliers to ensure a high standard of presentation in Kudos Hair and Beauty Salons.
