About the CourseIf you would like to know how to decorate your own Easter Cake, then this workshop is for you. If you have an interest in cake decorating and making models or want to learn more, then join our friendly work shop. During the day you will learn how to decorate a cake. You will cover a range of skills, the day is 100% practical, starting with a demonstration for each step. This day is a good foundation and introduction to finishing a sugar paste cake. The day will be informative but fun! Course ContentYou will need to bring in with you an 8” round fruitcake, between 2½ and 3inches deep. You will learn how to marzipan and coat a cake in sugar paste. Handling, storage and using the paste. Marzipan and sugar paste modelling of chickens and rabbits in an Easter theme. Cut out flowers and some piping skills. You will receive handouts on the skills you have learnt. No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome. Success StoryWe have great success with our cake decoration classes; this is the first time we have run a one day class. Entry RequirementsThere are no specific entry requirements for this workshop, just a love of cake decorating. Some students are already making cakes at home but want to improve their skills, while other students are complete beginners. Learning StyleAll of the learning is completed through a practical day in the college’s new kitchen facility. Workshops are instructive while in a relaxed atmosphere. The classes are fun. After a demonstration you will make your own items step by step. Questions will be answered and lots of hints and tips will be given throughout the day. Equipment RequirementsAs with any study of a practical subject, you may want to buy some specialist equipment but for this workshop all will be provided. You can discuss with tutor on day about what is essential to decorate cakes. AssessmentThere is no assessment. No written work will be required. After the workshop all cakes are normally displayed and discussed. ProgressionStudents on this course can progress to the day workshops. Bread, Sponges and Scones, Romantic Roses or the 30 week cake decoration course. Additional InformationThe fees are payable in advance and in full. No admittance on the day. You may want to bring your own apron and tea towel. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING IN 1KG MARZIPAN AND 1KG OF WHITE SUGARPASTE AND 12” ROUND CAKE DRUM BOARD. The college will provide a cake box for you to take home your cake.

About the CourseIf you are interested in cake decoration or want to learn more, this is the course for you. The course is for beginners or those who have some basic techniques. The course will cover a wide range of skills and is 100% practical, starting with a demonstration each week. This course is a good foundation and introduction to cake decoration. There are no assessments or written work and a college certificate will be awarded on completion. This means that there is flexibility and new skills are added each year. This course is very popular, so please enrol early. We are running the same course twice this year, Monday’s and Wednesday’s 6-8pm, so you have a choice! Course ContentYou will complete your own Christmas novelty cake with marzipan models, to create a snowman playing scene. You will also finish off some cupcakes with a “vintage” theme and a “Flower Bouquet” theme. Make some chocolate roses and finish a chocolate ganache sponge cake. Personalised brought Easter eggs. Make chocolate truffles. Coat a cake in sugar paste. Marzipan and coat a cake in royal icing and finish it off as a basket with piped royal iced flowers, plus more. No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome. The students help each other and swap ideas. After a demonstration you will practice/complete your task. Questions will be answered and lots of hints and tips will be given throughout the course. Equipment RequirementsAs with any study of a practical subject, you will need to buy some equipment. Most students will want to make cakes at home and sometimes turn it into a business. For this reason it is down to the individual student, how much they want to invest or what they want to buy. There are new products on the market all the time and it can become quite expensive. All of this will be discussed during induction on the first class, the best places to buy and what equipment is essential. You will not need everything at once! AssessmentThere is no assessment, as this is a college course. No written work will be required and all work will be covered by handouts. There will be a class project for the “departmental awards evening”. ProgressionStudents on this course can progress to the day workshops. Bread making, Easter Cake, Spectacular scones and super sponges and Romantic Roses. Additional Information
The fees may be paid in instalments, minimum of three or maximum of eight, please check with the college for more information. The course is for finishing cakes and not making cakes. During the thirty weeks you will need to provide by either making or buying: 1 x 8” or 10”square fruitcake – Christmas Cake 20 cupcakes in your chosen flavour – Vintage and Flower Bouquet Two 8” round chocolate sponge sandwich – Ganache Cake 1x 8” round fruitcake – Basket and flowers Enrolment InstructionsEnrolment Instructions No interview required.
