About the Course

This is a new course for this year. Making your own bread and bakery lines have become very popular. There is nothing like having the satisfaction of making something yourself. The course will cover alot of different skills from moulding, cutting, piping and different mixing techniques. 

THIS IS NOT FOR ANYONE ON A DIET!

Course Content

Have you ever wanted to bake your own bread or make some delicious confectionary lines? Well now is your chance!

During the course you will learn how to make, shape and mould different breads and buns. Some of the delicious goodies we will make are: plaited milk bread, savoury fancy rolls, Chelsea buns, various scones chocolate chip cookies, fresh cream vanilla slices, victoria sponge and more!

Best of all you get to take all your products home!  You will be provided with a recipe book with all the recipes and information you need to create your products at home. This course is for anyone interested in baking. No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome.

The classes are taught in an instructive but relaxed atmosphere, starting with a demonstration every lesson.

Equipment Requirements

No equipment needed, all can be borrowed.

The course is 100% practical with no assessments or any written work.

Course Content

During the class you will learn how to make Cheese and Herb Bread, Plaits and Fancy Rolls. Learn how to make your own bread by hand. There will be step by step instructions with easy to follow directions. Once you have made your own bread you will never go back to a sliced bread!

About the Course

If you would like to know how to decorate your own Easter Cake, then this workshop is for you.  If you have an interest in cake decorating and making models or want to learn more, then join our friendly work shop. During the day you will learn how to decorate a cake. You will cover a range of skills, the day is 100% practical, starting with a demonstration for each step.

This day is a good foundation and introduction to finishing a sugar paste cake. The day will be informative but fun!

Course Content

You will need to bring in with you an 8” round fruitcake, between 2½ and 3inches deep. You will learn how to marzipan and coat a cake in sugar paste. Handling, storage and using the paste. Marzipan and sugar paste modelling of chickens and rabbits in an Easter theme. Cut out flowers and some piping skills.

You will receive handouts on the skills you have learnt.

No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome.

Success Story

We have great success with our cake decoration classes; this is the first time we have run a one day class.

There are no specific entry requirements for this workshop, just a love of cake decorating.

Some students are already making cakes at home but want to improve their skills, while other students are complete beginners.

Learning Style

All of the learning is completed through a practical day in the college’s new kitchen facility.  Workshops are instructive while in a relaxed atmosphere. The classes are fun. After a demonstration you will make your own items step by step. Questions will be answered and lots of hints and tips will be given throughout the day.

Equipment Requirements

As with any study of a practical subject, you may want to buy some specialist equipment but for this workshop all will be provided. You can discuss with tutor on day about what is essential to decorate cakes. 

Assessment

There is no assessment. No written work will be required. After the workshop all cakes are normally displayed and discussed.

Progression

Students on this course can progress to the day workshops.

Bread, Sponges and Scones, Romantic Roses or the 30 week cake decoration course.

Additional Information

The fees are payable in advance and in full. No admittance on the day. You may want to bring your own apron and tea towel.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING IN 1KG MARZIPAN AND 1KG OF WHITE SUGARPASTE AND 12” ROUND CAKE DRUM BOARD.

The college will provide a cake box for you to take home your cake.

About the Course

If you would like to know how to make sugarcraft Roses, then this workshop is for you.  If you have an interest in wired flowers or want to learn more, then join our friendly work shop. During the day you will learn how to make roses at various stages of bloom and foliage. You will cover a range of skills, the workshop is 100% practical, starting with a demonstration for each step.

This day is a good foundation and introduction to wired flowers. The day will be informative but fun!

Course Content

You will need to bring in 1 packet of “Squires Kitchen” white flower paste.  You will learn how to make roses using a five petal cutter and make leaves. You will not be able to wire them together as they need to dry for 24 hours; however you will be told and shown pictures so you can complete at home later.  You will be shown how to handle, store and use flower paste. Colouring and dusting the paste, what to do if making your own paste. What wires are required and lots more!

You will receive handouts on the skills you have learnt.

No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome.

You will need to bring a block of dry oasis with you, to transport your flowers home safely.

If so then this workshop is for you.  If you have an interest in making your own sponges and scones or want to learn more, then join our friendly work shop. You will complete your own products: Victoria sponge, Genoese sponge, fresh cream and strawberry scones. Cheese and ham scones. Apricot and cherry scones. You will learn the importance of mixing ingredients correctly, different methods, whisking and creaming, plus lot’s more.
